Hey guys, not sure if anybody is into LARPing but me. In the event that there is someone out there, they have several parks for Amtgard, which is a middle ages/fantasy setting LARP, in the Houston area. here's a link for anyone wondering what I'm talking about. amtgard.com:8080/

Actually I never really thought about it, but oit sounds fun. I have neither the resources or skill to make any of the stuff, but doing more than just typoing or writing a story (Actually moving, acting, swinging a sword and stuff) sounds very interesting and fun xD

oh, it's a lot of fun! I play every saturday at a park in Pasadena called the Mushroom Shrine. you get to dress in costume, fight, portay your character, win awards for various things, and pick up on some really nifty low-tech. I can teach people how to make the weapons, shields, and even some forms of armor. as for the cost, you'd be surprised just how cheap the weapons and shields can be made. I've produced 2 longswords, 1 shortsword(the required weapon for amtgard), and 1 mace from about 15 ft of pvc, and 3 funnoodles. The total cost was around 10 bucks for all of that.

Oh it does sound fun.. So much fun! But Im sadly lacking the patience to do such things. I would get so annoying trying to recreate your chainmail and I would work on it solid for days, then put it off for more days, work on it solid again, put it off. Heck, when I first got the Soulforge book, I read it good for a day, then forgot about it for a week, and on and off. I am finally on the Book 5 section.
Plus I love the look, stories, and to handle the items, but I can honestly say I know know the specifics of the weapons, only how to guessidly wield them. And of course, only in the way a reader of a book would know how.

You have a chain mail created? I wonder...perhaps I've met you before in the past without knowing. I met someone last year that created something similar at LC.
But on topic, this does sound quite interesting. If i had the resources I'd probably join something like this. It looks like to be quite fun indeed yep yep.

Yes, I'm the guy that was making chainmaille at Lee college last year. I've probably talked to half the people in the student center about it, so there's a good chance you've met me. Riko, I have to tell you, nobody in their right mind works on chainmaille continuously until they have completed a suit. They would have horrid carpul-tunnel, and they would end up hating the craft. Taking breaks is a good thing.
As for knowing how to use the weapons, amtgard combat is in many ways very different from the actual use of real weapons. So coming into the game without knowing how to fight right is not only normal, but expected. There are people who will teach you. there are people that play the game solely for the chance to sling foam at one another. Our area produces some of the best fighters in the world (Yes, amtgard is world-wide). Finding a mentor won't be a problem, and I'd sling foam with anyone just for the practice.

Oh yeah! Rick introduced me to you awhile back for the one meeting I was there for haha. That was an excellent chain mail by the way. Quite heavy indeed.
World-wide you say? Wow thats pretty amazing. Do they have like tournaments and such against people world-wide?

They don't have a set event for world-wide tourney, but the people that are on the US/Canada border do hold international events.
the idea of people from around the world hauling armor, foam and graphite weapons, and costumes into one place is incredably awesome. The bragging rights earned from being the winner of that tourney would only be topped by the bragging rights of the inventors of the game. Watching the best fighters from each kingdom compete would be like wrapping Christmas around a wedding and sprinkling distilled win on it.

Hehe Myself Yuki, Erasmo, and jeremy are into Larping but since we only have swords we make the best of it. Loose a hand loose a leg and loose some skin off your fingers lol. Lots of fun.

Oooooh you mean that little play fighting stuff you guys do? I may be interested in taking to that as soon as I buy another wood katana. I got this one mainly to have one and be able to use it-- I dont really feel like beating it to shreds though.
